v0.3.0 Patch Notes


Hiya, I’ve got around to fiddling with this thing to make it a bit more usable. This updates makes a major change to the way characters are rendered so I’ve kept the previous versions around so you can revert if you find issues with it. I’d recommend backing up your saves using the Export Files button in the settings page before trying this update.

Changes:

  • Add a system fallback font - when loading text characters not included in the tool’s font, try and use a sans serif font from the system.
  • Change character rendering system to dramatically improve framerate (3000% in some extreme cases).
  • Change to Godot 4.4 - likely no changes noticeable for users.

Basically, it should now cache the textures for each character and reuse them instead of rendering them separately every time… which was a wild decision for past me to make. There will still be perf issues when filtering characters if you have 1000s but I think this is more to do with how Godot handles the item list and will likely need a lot more time to fix. Hopefully this is good enough for general use.
